I did a thing.
I keep a secret from my husband. I saved for and planned an entire vacation without telling him. For a year. A YEAR. The man I tell everything to, well, I just didn’t tell him this. I planned an adventure. An epic trip. AKA Disney World 2018!
I didn’t tell anybody actually. The travel agent and myself are the only 2 who knew about it. WHY? I know it’s weird. But the truth is I knew he would feel like it was too much money, or money that could be spent elsewhere.
But all I could think was that our oldest is graduating from high school this year and it was the last opportunity we had before the entire dynamic of our family changed to go on a big family trip. So I kept it a secret, I saved money, I made all of the plans and then after it was paid for I told him. Was he ecstatic? No. Was he mad? Also a no. I explained to him why it was so important to me and reminded him, that he told me once the best way to get him out of town, was to have already paid for the trip and then to tell him about it. I mean how could he be mad at that point right?!?!?!
We didn’t tell the kids until 3 weeks before because I was actually afraid that when I told Leonidas that he was going to get to meet Mickey Mouse that his head might explode. So, we waited, and waited. Until MY head almost exploded and then we told them! To say they were excited would be a HUGE understatement!
At the airport getting ready to fly to Florida my husband expressed that he didn’t understand why we had to go all the way to Florida to go to 6 Flags essentially. Oh, sweetie. Just you wait.
45 minutes in at Magic Kingdom and he looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and said. “I get it now!” We proceeded to have the most fun I think I have ever had! The excitement, the glow, the magic was unbelievable! If you have been to Disney I am sure you have similar memories. I am so very happy I was able to do this with my kids before they weren’t all kids anymore and with Abby moving out at the end of this summer it’s a change that is coming way to fast!

It was the quintessential family vacation minus the driving for days to get to our destination….which we actually do alot. It was the perfect vacation. Now to convince him it is time for a couples trip to Disney……
