What does self care look like to you? It changes for me! Most days I consider it a win if I get my water in for the day at least attempt to get my steps in and take at least 15 minutes to meditate.
This weekend we were out of town and it looked like a walk on the beach digging my toes in the sand as often as possible and some laughs with some of my very best of friends!
As often as possible I try to take an hour light some candles and take a bubble bath with some delicious bath bombs or salts and just relax in the hottest water possible.
This last week I had the brilliant idea of adding some jazz into the mix and I am here to tell you that will be the new definition of self care on any random weekday night in my house!!! It was perfection! I found a playlist on Amazon Music that really made my heart happy.
A bubble bath feels luxurious and indulgent as an adult especially on a weekday! I try to take at least one a week to re-charge. Self care is a priority to me, I understand that I have to refill my cup to be effective in business and my personal life. However this was a very hard sell to me and took a long time for me to understand the importance of it! Too long.
I also do my best to help my kids find ways to recharge, I sincerely hope that they don’t have as hard of a time as I did as an adult realizing the importance of self care and putting themselves first every once in awhile. It is so easy to drown in the day to day stuff that is expected of us.
I remind my teenagers to take their shoes off and go hang out in the grass, we are working on mediating, I do occasionally take my girls for a pedicure or manicure but alot of times I just do their nails for them! That is a great way to slow down and spend some time together as they are getting older and having lives outside of us! For my boys who are younger I take the oldest (12) to the art museum and we walk around quietly and he gets to go explore what he finds interesting or we will go and just sit with our feet in the creek! My youngest is 5 so usually “bath” time is a rushed shower but every once in awhile I run him a bubble bath and drop in his bath toys and just let him play regardless of how clean he may get! 🙂 Recently we have started a hydroponics garden complete with pond and there is a small water feature, so at any given time you might find at least one of us hanging out in that area just being present.
So take the time to have some tea, read a book, take a walk, bubble bath it up. Do whatever it takes to get some time in for you today! It is just as important if not more so than everything else you are fitting in I promise!
If you don’t have a ready answer for what you do for self care I highly encourage you to pick something that helps you to relax and do it today! Your soul will thank you!!!
