Well its that time!! I now officially have a 15 year old who is about to start driving and its January so what do we do??? Why head to New England of course! Birthday trip has started! We flew into Baltimore yesterday and are driving in to Philadelphia today. But first a bite to eat at Blue Moon Cafe and then off to tour an Amish village the home of Hershey’s chocolate, covered bridges, dutch countryside are on the agenda for today.
………………………………………………………………..OK so day 1 didn’t go exactly as planned we did check out the Amish/Mennonite situation and learned some new info! Hershey was too fun I had no idea how amazing Milton Hershey was and it had nothing to do with the chocolate! If you haven’t been you should go and if you can’t go you should definitely check him out online!!! The dutch countryside is so beautiful even in the dead of winter. I truly had no idea what rolling countryside meant until this trip. I really want to come back in the fall I can’t even imagine how gorgeous it has to be! Took the oldest to her first pub and had some awesome fish and chips in Philadelphia. We had to cut the day a teeny bit short due p bad weather coming in so we didn’t make it to the covered bridge but its on the list for next time! Day 2 explore Philadelphia! ………………………………………………………………..day 2 dawned cold and rainy but that didn’t stop us! After a leisurely breakfast we headed out to explore and learn some history. First stop the visitors center for a map then we were off to see the liberty bell! Then independence hall, Benjamin Franklin’s grave, the quaker meeting house, Betsy Ross’s house, the national Constitution center, arch meeting house, had a cheesestake for lunch and walked through China town on the way back to the hotel. Saw lots of statues and art including the LOVE sculpture! Some truly amazing architecture and lovely old buildings and churches. Not to mention a ridiculous amount of shopping. And all on foot!!! It was strangely emotional at the national constitution center and the tour of independence hall. I may or may not have played tears off to my oldest as the effort to not sneeze during the show! 😳 it was so much fun and very different than anything I have done with my Abby!! I think I had more fun than she did!! Tomorrow we are headed back to Baltimore to spend a little time then off to the airport to head back home……………………..
Last day of the trip and we got a little bit of a late start so no real time to hang out in Baltimore but we did manage to sneak in a short stop in Delaware so it has officially been a 3 state trip! For lunch we had Maryland crab one last time, turns out that a crab pretzel is ridiculously delicious! I am ready to get home I miss my hubby and my green bean not to mention the bigs but am very glad to have had this opportunity with Abby. I spent way too much money, walked until we thought our feet would fall off and had the first trip I had to worry about ice and snow, all in all a successful trip!!!
